Born in Sichuan in 1992, Bohao Liu studied Documentary at New York University with a full scholarship. His graduation film, the short documentary Eagles Rest in Liangshan, won a Student Academy Award in 2021 and a DGA Student Film Award in 2022. His docufiction short, When a Rocket Sits on the Launch Pad, was selected by Berlinale Generation and won a Special Jury Award at DOC NYC in 2023. His documentary If a Walnut Falls premiered at Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and was nominated by International Documentary Association Awards for the Best Short in 2025. He is an alumni of Le Fresnoy, Academy GOLD, Locarno Spring and Filmmakers Academy.
